We had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Speth's hen and rooster today. She explained their physical differences from each other, and everyone was able to give them both a quick pet on the wing.
Today in kindergarten, we listened to the story ABC, Can You Find Me? by Jakki Tauer. Read Aloud: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bflvEDtaaNg After listening to the story, we discussed one of the pages in depth. The page read, "A pretty picture for you to view. Can you find all the U's?" We discussed words that have the letter U in them. Each student selected a word, chose to have their art portrait or landscape, and drew a large outline for their word with a Sharpie. Then, they colored in their picture with oil pastels. Finally, they used friction (Our current science unit integrated well.) to roll out the letter U's with modeling clay. The U's were hidden in their picture. I took pictures of their art and displayed them for their peers to see. Each child went to the board, counted their U's and identified how many tens and ones were in their number (Our current math unit integrated wonderfully too!). We have designed gingerbread people and created a scene from the book A Snowy Day. The students will be brining home a snowman can with 2 die inside and math dice games to play over our time away from school. I hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing and safe break.
